Got Protein Shake?

Sloan decided she needed a little pick me up after her long, hard day at school yesterday.

Run, Run, As Fast As You Can...

I'm just posting to brag on myself that I ran 6 miles in under an hour, 57:50 to be exact, this morning. I've been training to run a 1/2 marathon in December and my new goal is to keep it at or under 2 hours. Its going really well so far and the biggest surprise is that I'm actually enjoying the training. So far, anyway... Alright, and now the best part - I get to go eat 750 calories worth of peanut butter M&Ms! I bet I can do that in under and hour as well :)

First Day of School

The kids' first day went very well. Jack's teachers' names are Senora Nancy and Madame Isabella and Sloan has Senora Mariza and Madame Carine. Jack wasn't too happy this morning to find out he was going back a second day in a row, I guess he's used to having a day or more to stay home in between school days. Sloan was more than happy to go as long as she got to wear her pretty dress and carry her backpack in like a big girl.

New Dinosaurs

The dinosaur obsession continues to grow as Jack and Sloan have decided to enlarge the herd. We made a trip to Target today and they were told they could each pick out one toy. Jack initially said that he wanted an airplane or a helicopter, but once he saw the T-Rex, there was no way we were going to leave the store without it. Sloan cruised the Barbie/doll aisle and remarked on how cute the dollies were and that she like all of their pretty dresses, but in the end she decided to be like big brother and happily took home a triceratops. I guess she figured it would have better luck than a barbie against the t-rex :)

Jack vs. the Jellyfish

Jellyfish

Bathing Beauties

We had a great time in Pensacola this past week. We arrived around 3pm on Wednesday, checked in and got right out to the beach. The weather was hot, but not too bad with the breeze. We ended up spending a lot more time in the pools than at the beach because Sloan kept crying when the salt water would burn her eyes, Jack was a little scared of the "big" waves, and the last morning there were jellyfish in the water, one of which introduced itself to the back of Jack's leg. Still, it was great to get away for a few days and we all had a lot of fun.

Garden at Sunset

Garden at Sunset

Last Day at St. John's

The kids went to St. John's for the last time this morning. It was sad, but I don't think they really understand that they won't be seeing their teachers and classmates there again. We've been trying to prepare them lately by telling them that they will be going to a new school soon, but, again, I don't they really understand because we haven't gotten much of a response to that. I'm not too worried about Sloan, she can roll with the flow (especially if her Jack is with her), but I'm trying to prepare myself for Jack's reaction to his new digs. The first day when we go with them will probably be fine, but on the second day when he realizes I'm leaving him there, I think it will be very, very bad. If any one would like to offer to bring them to school next Wednesday, please let me know. There could possibly be a monetary incentive!

The Flip

Sloan performed this stunt for us out of the blue yesterday. I don't know how she knew to do it, maybe its just one of those intuitive kids things, but Jack couldn't figure it out even after he saw Sloan do it several times. I'm thinking of changing her name to Nadia.

Aquarium Trip

We had to cut our weekend a little short because I came down with a cold, but other than that we had a great time in New Orleans. We made the trip with Amy, William (2 1/2 yrs) and Jackson (1) and also Natalie, Lucy Jean (4) and Charlie (2). We all went to Drago's for lunch and then checked into our hotel. After we got settled we walked to the aquarium and let the kids go wild. We met Mona and Thad (3) there. The kids played really well together and I think they had a lot of fun. After the aquarium, we went for a stroll around the quarter and received quite a few looks. I'm sure its not every day that you see three double strollers cruising around the French Quarter together. We went for an early dinner and then took the kids swimming at the hotel pool. There were no 911 calls made or emergency room visits, so I'm calling the trip a huge success (although there were many, MANY moments that I fervently wished Jason were there).

Haircut Day

Sloan got her very first haircut today. Although it was just a trim across the back, she was a Very Good Girl :) Jack went ahead and got one, too, just because we're going to the beach next week and then school is starting. He was also very good, but he did keep saying "I think that's enough now" every minute or so while she was cutting. And just to let you know, Sloan's shirt is all wet not because her "stylist" was really messy, but because she was "thirsty" when we got there (she is always thirsty) and she gets more water on her clothes than in her mouth when she drinks out of a water fountain.

Jack's Last Swimming Lesson

Jack did great at his last swimming lesson today. He's really got the frontstroke down. He still needs some practice with the backstroke. The video is a little dark because they had to do it indoors this time due to weather. You can see Mr. Cool high-fiving his teacher at the end.

Jack Hannegan - Punk Star

Jack woke up with some wild hair this morning, but instead of completely wetting it and coaxing it back into submission, we decided to work with it and "borrow" some of daddy's hair goo to create a new style for him. He didn't like it at first and kept saying, "I don't think so, mama," but after awhile it apparently grew on him because I've been finding him on top of the bathroom counter looking at himself all afternoon. I think he has decided its cool.
