Our Delicate Flower
Sloan's big brother has had a huge impact on her life. Even when he's not around, she prefers to play with snakes and dinosaurs over dolls and dresses. This was the first time I've ever heard her making her toys "talk" to each other. Its a little difficult to see what is going on because it was so dark in the house today, but I thought it was too cute to delete.

The Conversation
This was a conversation between Jack and Sloan in the car on the way home from school today.
Jack: Sloan, I want you to be my best friend.
Sloan: No!
Jack: Why not?
Sloan: I mad at you.
Jack: Why?
Sloan: wlherlewkjcaovnidoh3eaoijwe;fa (this was a long sentence, but I couldn't understand it- I'm guessing she had no reason to be mad, but was just in the mood)
Jack: Well, if you're mad at me then you have to go in the alligator water.
Sloan: No! I not going in.
Jack: If you're not going to be my best friend, then you have to.
Sloan: I'm thirsty.
Jack: You have to be patient and wait til we get home.
Sloan: Otay.

Sticks and Stones...
Well, I don't know where he got it from, but Jack has learned the art of namecalling and delights in the fits of screaming and crying that it sends his sister into. At various times during the day he will refuse to call her by her name and instead refers to her as either "doughnut" or "cookie." As you can imagine, this upsets her greatly and she starts screaming at the top of her lungs " I Sloanie, I not a doughnut/cookie." At which point Jacks laughs and continues calling her that until she is reduced to tears. I am at a total loss as to what to do about this. My first reaction is laughter, but the screaming and crying starts to get old really quickly. I think I may need to teach Jack some better names like good old "poo poo head" so that I can actually reprimand him for it and stop the torture. I love my children, I love my children, I love my children....
Jack and Sloan's New Rain Boots
The kids picked out some new rain boots at Target this morning and have yet to take them off. Jack went with the green frogs again, but Sloan picked out some new pink and purple kitty cats. She's very impressed with them.

Jack in the Pool
Jack did great at his last swimming lesson yesterday. We were all very impressed with what he learned in just 2 weeks (except for Sloan who just wanted to play with the traffic cones next to the pool). His teacher's name was Ms. Leila and he was very lucky that the other two students assigned to her didn't show up most of the time, including the last lesson, so he got a lot of one on one time. That also meant that he had to swim the whole forty minutes instead of getting a break while the teacher worked with other kids. Needless to say, he was very tired by the end and was more interested in pool toys than the backstroke.

Backyard Froggie Pond
I don't know how everyone else made out, but we experienced the monsoon in Baton Rouge this weekend. It came down so hard and so fast that we found ourselves with waterfront property for awhile. Needless to say, the kids/frogs loved it. Hope everyone else managed to stay a little drier :)

Swimming Lessons
Jack had his first swimming lesson yesterday and it went very well. There were lots of screaming, terrified children, but not Jack. He sat calmly in his spot on the pool steps and listened to his teacher. Unfortunately, thunder started 15 minutes into the lesson and they had to move the class to the indoor pool. For whatever reason, the indoor pool area is air-conditioned and although the water was nice and warm, the room air was freezing and they had to end the lesson early because all the little kids were shaking violently. His teacher said that he did very well and put his face in the water with no problem. We've already had a thunder storm pass through this afternoon and I'm hoping it will stay sunny for the rest of the day so they can have their class outside. The parents won't get to stay until the last class at the end of next week, but I'll be sure to take lots of pictures then.

Bug Cakes!
The kids had fun baking and decorating some bug cakes today. Of course, their favorite part was eating them! Luckily, I managed to save a couple for daddy to eat when he gets home from work.
Now we're off to the pool to burn off all that sugar and chocolate :)
